STEP

The IEEE Kerala Section GOLD Affinity Group in association with the LINK organized the Student Transition and Elevation Partnership (STEP) program on June 18th 2011 at Harbour View Residency, Cochin, Ernakulam. The program was hosted by IEEE Student branches of TKM college of Engineering, Kollam and TocH Institute of Science & Technology, Ernakulam. 

The program was centered on the theme ‘Thinking beyond cubicles and pay cheques’. The event had an excellent response and had a turnout of 32 Graduating Student members and 17 non GSM members.

PIIGOM-11

Pan India IEEE GOLD officers meet 2011 held on the 19th of June 2011 became a milestone in the history of Region 10 GOLD activities and another golden feather in the cap of the Kerala GOLD affinity group. 

The event which was conceptualized and organized by IEEE Kerala Section GOLD at Hotel Grand Seasons, Cochin, Kerala, witnessed the participation of five affinity groups spread across the geographical span of India. The meeting was convened mainly to discuss the strategies and action plans of all the GOLD AGs in India with the objective to empower the activities of GOLD in India. 

The event had a record participation of five affinity groups out of the total seven in India namely Bombay Section, Madras Section, Hyderabad Section, Bangalore Section and the host Kerala Section.

CONTINUING EDUCATION CONGRESSES (CEC)

The idea of the Continuing education Congresses (CEC) was born out of the necessity for attracting members of the academia to the marvelous world of opportunities that is IEEE. Selected for the R10 EAC Support fund this year, the CEC was one of the dream projects of Kerala GOLD. 

The CEC was organized at ToC H Institute of Science and Technology on 30th September and 1st October, 2011. The program was aimed at making the academia aware of IEEE and the plethora of opportunities available to them, and was conducted with the support of IEEE R10 Educational Activities, IEEE Kerala Section and GOLD. The workshop was attended by around 40 delegates from various engineering colleges.

TISP WORKSHOP 2011

Kerala GOLD successfully conducted the first ever TISP workshop in Kerala on 16th July 2011 in association with IEEE TKMCE Student Branch, Kerala. 

The event was a proclaimed success with participation from 52 school teachers across South Kerala. The event was inaugurated by Honorable Labor minister of Kerala, Er.Shibu Baby John and had the esteemed presence of dignitaries from IEEE.

GOLD AWARENESS SESSION

A GOLD awareness session was handled by Er. S. Gopakumar (Awards Chair & Student Activities Adviser – IEEE Kerala Section, Dy. Director, VSSC (Retd) at the NeST campus in CSEZ, Cochin on 22 December, 2011. It was a combined programme by IEEE Kerala Section GOLD Affinity Group and Kochi Subsection. 

The session started by 4.30pm with around 35 attendees. All of the attendees were employees of NeST. The Chief Technical Officer of NeST, Dr. K. R. Suresh Nair was also present at the venue. Except 4 or 5, the attendees never had been an IEEE member. The session came to an end by 6.30 and the responses were overwhelming.

The speaker started with a discussion on the role of engineers in the community, the challenges that they face, the necessity to stay current with the technology and how IEEE or specifically GOLD can help them in these areas. He succeeded in convincing the attendees about the wide range of benefits or opportunities provided by GOLD in these domains.

Meeting of GOLD and EAC Executives of Kerala Section to discuss on collaborative initiatives and strategies held on 13th May 2011 at Trivandrum.

BREAKTHROUGH 2011

1. A 3 day Summer Training Camp for the Student Members of IEEE Kerala Section being organized by LINK and GOLD of IEEE Kerala Section on 29th April to May 1st 2011 at Dhoni Hills Palakkad.
2. This is a unique opportunity for a select few to attend one of the best and rarest training facilities in India.
3. Boys and Girls alike will sweat it out in this adventure camp to prove their mettle.
4. Break through is a three day adventure camp for professionals and youth to get in touch with the true spirit of life by exploring the unexplored territories of the mind and nature.
5. The soft-skills sessions being delivered by the prominent trainer, Mr. Thomas George K, of Turning Point Fame, will be a life changing experience for everyone.
6. Couple it with the trekking and mountaineering camp, and this will be an exhilarating experience in your life which you can cherish forever.
7. The program consists of a blend of adventure sports training and soft-skills training; set in the ambience of nature’s picturesque elegance, at Dhoni Hills, Palakkad.
8. The program will train the students in Mountaineering, Rappelling, River-Crossing, Fire-Walking, and many other adventure sports.
9. We guarantee a marked increase in the confidence level of the participants and a radical shift in the thinking of the students with this Summer Camp.

GOLD AWARENESS SESSION

Awareness Session on GOLD for Branch Counselors during BCC-2011 (Congrego) at Government Engineering College  at Thrissur, Kerala on 2nd April 2011.

ALL KERALA GOLD CONGRESS AND NETWORKING DINNER

The first ever GOLD Congress in the history of IEEE Kerala section was held at Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Trivandrum on 26th February 2011. 

The event turned out to be a resounding success and marked an ideal kick off for the GOLD activities in the Section this year. The Congress was followed by a Networking Dinner in which ideas were exchanged and actions were for planned for a vibrant GOLD in the coming months. Jaison Abey Sabu, one of the most prominent GOLD members of Kerala Section was honored at the event for his exemplary contributions to IEEE. 

The event was formally inaugurated by Amarnath Raja, Chair IEEE Global HTC committee by lighting the lamp, a traditional custom of Kerala. The occasion was also graced with the presence of a star studded dignitary bench which boasted of eminent personalities like Sasi PM, S Gopakumar, both Past Chairs of Kerala Section, K B Senthilkumar, Section secretary, Jaison Abey Sabu, Section Student Activities Chair and Visan Koshy Varghese, South Asia GOLD clustering program coordinator. 

The entire Congress was centered on the theme Bridging gaps, Expanding networks… The GOLD Congress did full justice to this focus and became an ideal venue to bridge the gap between the graduating students and the industry professionals and helped everyone present to expand their professional network.

GOLD STRATEGY MEETING

GOLD Strategy meet was held in connection with the IEEE Kerala Section AGM on Jan 15th 2011 at Trivandrum. The main intention was to revive GOLD Activities in the Section.
