STRATEGIC MEETING OF KERALA YPS WITH MGA

5 volunteers representing Kerala YPs community had a meeting with Ralph Ford (VP, MGA) and Cecilia Jankowiski (Staff Head, MGA) at IEEE India Office, Bangalore on 4th October 2014 to discuss about the strategic developments and the future of YPs emphasizing on the increasing spirit of Entrepreneurship and the importance of building a connected global community.

IEEE E-SCIENTIA

The sixth installation in the world of E-Scientia project of the Institution of Electronics and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) has been placed at Centre for Science in Society (C-SiS), CUSAT. The same was inaugurated by past president Dr. Moshe Kam at CUSAT. This was a joint initiative of IEEE Kerala Section, IEEE Kochi Subsection & IEEE Kerala YPs. The installation took months and the inauguration was done on 16th July at CSIS, CUSAT.

IEEE ECFDP (EARLY CAREER FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM): SERIES 3

After the successful conduct of ECFDP 1 and 2, the final and third edition of the Faculty Development Program  was held at MESCE, Kuttipuram. The event was organized for the early career academicians from engineering colleges from the northern region of the state to boost their technological awareness and IEEE awareness The five day program received a great response and was also graced by the presence of Burt Ditch , Director ,IEEE Pre University Programs. The event was held between 9th and 13th June 2014 at Kuttipuram Kerala.

IEEE DAY 2014

IEEE Kerala YPs in association with IEEE Kerala Section celebrated IEEE Day on 7 Oct 2014 at Hotel Hycinth, Trivandrum with a brainstorming discussion on “Ways forward to build a better Technology and Innovation led business ecosystem in Kerala involving captains of industry, academia, R&D houses, infrastructure and government. 

IEEE CEW (COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOP)

Community Engagement Workshop on SIGHT, EPICS and TISP hosted by IEEE Kerala SIGHT and IEEE Kerala YPs SIGHT with support from IEEE SIGHT shared the needs of the society where the technology solutions are required to address humanitarian issues by experts and to share the experience of volunteers who have already provided solutions for demanding humanitarian issues. The event was held at Hotel Udaya Samudra, Kovalam, Trivandrum along with Global Humanitarian Technology Conference – South Asia Satellite (GHTC – SAS), which is focused on humanitarian Issues in South Asia (www.ghtc-sas.org). This  also served as a platform for coveted speakers to address the “Engineers of Tomorrow” and introduce to them the areas where “Technology Demand” is required to solve humanitarian needs. The event was held on 26th September 2014 at Trivandrum.

ALL KERALA SIGHT CAMP 2014

IEEE Kerala Section SIGHT, YP SIGHT and WIE organised a two day camp for communi- ty engagement with Kunchipara Tribal Village, near the Poyamkutty Hydel project in Ernakulam District of Kerala.!This is probably the first Camp participated by Students and Engineering professionals for understanding and engaging with the communities living in the forests, understanding their way of life, history, social and cultural practices, education, health etc. A major thrust was also on developing a technique that could be employed by other SIGHT groups world over, who could do similar camps to understand communities.! ! The program was first suggested by the Viswa Jyothi College of Engineering and Technology (VJCET) based at a small town of Muvattupuzha near the port-city of Kochi (also spelt Cochin). The VJCET SIGHT had visited the village previously and had thought this was an opportunity to bring together the SIGHT groups in Kerala

STEP 2014

IEEE STEP (Student Transition and Elevation Partnership program) 2014, organized by IEEE Kerala Young Professionals Affinity Group, was hosted at Rajagiri School of Engineering & Technology, Kochi on the 23rd of August. The event was aimed to convey the benefits of IEEE Young Professionals and thereby facilitate the easy transition of Student member to Young Professional. The participants included recent graduates, Graduate Student members & final year students along with a diverse attendee list of Industry Professionals, Entrepreneurs and Academicians who graced the event with their presence.

TISP (TEACHER IN SERVICE PORGRAM) BOOT CAMP 2014

IEEE Kerala Young Professionals AG after successful execution of TISP Activities during the last three years came up with an exclusive trainer workshop with the aim of creating future TISP Champions. The IEEE Kerala TISP Boot Camp 2014 was held on 18th Oct 2014 at Albertian Institute of Science and Technology, Ernakulam, Kerala. There were a bunch of  engineers who could qualify themselves as TISP volunteers from across the Section’s IEEE Student branches

EYES FREE SCIENCE CAMP FOR THE BLIND & LOW VISION STUDENTS

A one day event that renewed confidence on why not blind and low vision students go for science and mathematics higher studies. It was co initiated by IEEE Kerala YP along with Chakshumathi at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam. The event was held on 22nd Feb 2014 at Kottayam.

IEEE ECFDP (EARLY CAREER FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM) :SERIES 2

After the successful conduct of ECFDP 1 at Thrissur in 2013, the next edition was held at TKM College of Engineering Kollam. The event was organized for the early career academicians from engineering colleges from the southern region of the state to boost their technological awareness and IEEE awareness The IEEE Kerala YP team with the help of IEEE Educational Activities Board has already evolved a program for the Kerala specific needs, which could be useful for the rest of the developing countries as well. The event was held on 27th Jan 2014 at Quilon.
